The Mormon settlers reached Dance Hall Rock with little trouble. They stopped here to celebrate and regroup for the balance of the journey. The scouts they sent out returned with reports of a nightmarish landscape ahead. The weeks turned into grueling months as they struggled across deep washes and slick-rock. Today most of the road can be traveled in passenger vehicles. (Depending on what the common flash floods have done -- the Interagency Office always is abreast of current conditions.)
